Investment research analyst / FINANCIAL JOURNALIST

part-time & Remote

We are seeking a highly analytical and curious Investment Research Analyst to support the development of weekly market commentary and insights. This individual will research financial and investment market trends, analyze data, and synthesize key insights into structured briefs that enable the organization’s owner to record informed, relevant, and engaging weekly market updates for their audience.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in financial journalism, market research, or junior trading who understands how to interpret market activity, ask the right questions, and translate complex information into clear, actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor financial and investment markets to identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Conduct in-depth research across equities, macroeconomic indicators, policy updates, and sector-specific developments.

  • Analyze data and synthesize findings into concise, structured briefing documents.

  • Identify key talking points and strategic narratives for weekly video commentary.

  • Validate information sources and ensure accuracy of financial data and insights.

  • Proactively determine which subject matter experts, analysts, or internal stakeholders to consult for additional context.

  • Track recurring themes and market shifts to ensure continuity and long-term perspective in content.

  • Support content preparation and key data points for presentation.

  • Stay current on geopolitical, economic, and policy changes that may influence market direction.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in financial markets, investment research, financial journalism, or junior trading.

  • Strong understanding of capital markets, macroeconomics, and investment principles.• Demonstrated ability to research, analyze, and synthesize complex financial information.

  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to translate data into clear, structured insights.

  • High level of intellectual curiosity and ability to identify the right questions to deepen analysis.

  • Experience working with financial market news.

  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and credibility.

Commitment & Work Structure

  • 3-5 hours per week to start

  • Mondays 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with flexibility as required

  • Remote position with occasional in-person meetings in Toronto

  • Onboarding and training provided
